Christchurch Women’s Prison chaplain Mary Kamo retires after 33 years

Mary Kamo has retired after 33 years as a chaplain at Christchurch Women’s Prison.

When Mary Kamo started working as a catholic chaplain at Christchurch Women’s Prison, there were fewer than 50 prisoners inside the facility.

It was 1983 and she was the first laywoman to become a chaplain to prisoners in New Zealand. Read more
