Desperate choice faces Christians in Syria... Read more]]> Life has become so dangerous for Christians in Syria that they face the choice of trying to leave — in itself a difficult course of action — or being killed.

That's the view of the Maronite archbishop of Damascus, Archbishop Samir Nassar, who says defenceless civilians, both Christians and Muslims, are being killed each day by bombs, car bombs, snipers and lack of medical care.

The local Church has become a "wall of tears", to which all are turning "for protection and help in finding a visa to leave".

People "suffer, hope, escape, pray and, in these tragic hours, turn their gaze to the Blessed Martyrs of Damascus, of whom on July 10 we celebrated the memory," says Monsignor Samir Nassar, Maronite Archbishop of Damascus.

"On the streets of Damascus you see people fleeing, there are refugees who, desperate, cross the city in search of a refuge. The lack of charity structures, the embargo and the limited resources available do not help to face this emergency and contribute to fuelling anxiety."
