Plan for gated catholic community in France sparks outrage... Read more]]> A project to create small gated communities in rural towns exclusively for Catholic families has drawn criticism in France.

But this is the plan from Monasphère, a real estate development company that two young Catholic entrepreneurs founded in 2021.

"We propose a form of thematic housing - like an eco-hamlet - around Christian spiritual sites," explained Damien Thomas, one of the founders.

Thomas is the former secretary-general of the Shrine of Saints Louis and Zelie Martin, the parents of St Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower).

He said Monasphère's objective is to build small communities of Christian fraternity - "but open to all" - in rural areas in France.
