Church leaders attending a workshop on HIV in Suva this week were told they must be proactive and informed when they lead their congregations and communities in responding to HIV.
“Do not wait for a crisis in your communities to start acting, be proactive and be informed, become HIV literate, learn as much as possible. Be ahead of your congregations and lead the fight against discrimination,” the UNAIDS Coordinator for the Pacific Island Countries Tim Rwabuhemba said.
He added they should be tactful and compassionate.“Your actions should not promote discriminatory behavior and avoid condemnation.”
The workshop is co- hosted by the South Pacific Association of Theological Schools (SPATS) in collaboration with UNAIDS and UNDP.
