One hundred students of Saint Agnes Primary School in Suva will heighten awareness of child abuse at the upcoming Tadra Kahani show. The students will perform to the theme ‘Child Abuse, Every Child Has a Story’.
Student representative Olly No’ora said they expected tough competition from other schools.
“It will be a challenging competition but we are aiming to relate the message across to the audience,” the Class Eight student said.
“The rise of child abuse is tremendous and we hope that through this dance we will be able to create awareness of the issue.”
According to Police statistics, child neglect is the leading form of child abuse in the country with a total of 703 cases reported for the years 2001 to 2010.
Tadra Kahani will be held on the 18th of August at Suva’s Vodafone Arena. Tadra means ‘dream’ in the Fijian language and Kahani is ‘story’ in Hindustani. Tadra-Kahani is a ‘dream story’ performed in a full scale stage production. In the show young people express their dreams, hopes and aspirations in a story dance on stage in front of their peers. In 2010 24 schools from around Fiji showcased meaningful messages.
