Youth groups from the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and Tokelau joined 87 local groups in celebrating the Samoa’s Catholic Youth Week at Tofamamao Pastoral Centre at Leauva’a in Samoa last week.
The Catholic Youth Week programme began last Sunday with a parade of all participants from the Leauva’a Catholic Church, after a brief service there, to the Tofamamao Centre. It was a long procession led by a police escort and accompanied by four brass bands and floats brought spectators on the side road of Leauva’a and Tuana’i villages.
The Catholic Youth Week theme, “Being a Catholic”, was highlighted in His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi’s speech at the opening of the week with a “heart speaks to heart” message for all participants. “Youth are the leaders of tomorrow and they need to develop the understanding academically and spiritually as the youth now will pave the way for a brighter future,” said Tui Atua.
