A new leader for St Vincent de Paul in Auckland

Delphina Soti has been appointed as operations manager for the St Vincent de Paul Society in Auckland, New Zealand.

Soti, who has worked with young people nationally and in Auckland for the society, takes over from Bill van Dam who is stepping down after 23 years in such roles. “It is time for me to step aside, because I’ve done it for a long time, and because I’m not as young as I used to be,” Mr van Dam said.

“And also we have younger people like Del who are very qualified and very able and very committed to carry on the work. So I’m retiring from the management role, but am still going to be around on a part-time and voluntary basis, just to support Del and do some of the other chores,” Mr van Dam said.

Soti’s main hope for her future role is to “be part of the process of providing a platform to support people in what they do”. “I understand that a lot of people are drawn to this type of work and it is just to work alongside Bill to further develop and give them the support that they need in order to live out their calling, whatever that may be,” she said.
