A far-right Christchurch group has been condemned for circulating flyers in Auckland claiming an “Asian invasion” is taking place.
The group, which calls itself the Right Wing Resistance, has distributed “Stop the Asian Invasion” leaflets in suburbs with high Asian populations, including Pakuranga, Howick and Northcote. Police are concerned that the campaign could lead to “racially motivated violence”, says police Asian liaison officer Raymond Won.
“Shame on Kyle Chapman and his like with their ridiculous and offensive campaign!” said Auckland diocese spokesperson Lyndsay Freer, “I wonder if he has ever visited the home of even one immigrant Asian family who came to this country to work and educate their children?”
” In the parishes of our Auckland Diocese, we are blessed with hundreds if not thousands of people from the many countries of Asia who are hard-working, loving families – parents and young people – who contribute substantially to the cultural, spiritual and academic life of our communities.”
Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres said the Human Rights Commission had received at least five complaints about the racist pamphlets, mostly from people who received them in their mailboxes.
