Pope prevents burglary, but nuns get away with the cash

Burglars dressed in boilers broke in to CathCom, Essex, but left empty handed after they saw an image of the Pope.

Security cameras showed them opening the front door of the building, getting into the offices and disconnecting computers ready to take away – when a man spied a large image of Pope Benedict. The cameras showed the group appearing to talk and then leave.

CathCom’s director, Nick Layton, said: “Perhaps the picture of Pope Benedict made them feel guilty.”

Elsewhere in Palos Heights, a man and a woman, both with weapons and dressed as nuns, robbed a bank.

The fled in silver four-door Chevrolet with tinted windows.
