There was a standing ovation for a ninety-year-old Compassion Sister, Loyola Galvin, after a documentary film about her life had premiered at the NZ International Film Festival in the Embassy Theatre in Wellington.
The theatre was packed to see the world premiere of the Wellington documentary Gardening with Soul. Director Jess Feast called the festival premiere a great honour. “I’ve always loved this cinema, and looking at the audience today is a great sight”.
For producer Vicky Pope the only regret about bringing Gardening with Soul to fruition, was a feeling that a testament to Sr Loyola’s life deserved more than “the brevity of a 96-minute feature film”.
Gardening With Soul follows 90 year-old Sister Loyola Galvin in her garden at the Home of Compassion in Island Bay over the course of a year.
