The members of girl band from the Philippines making a mark in the UK’s X-Factor show have revealed they are all teetotal and none have ever been kissed.
The Cercado sisters – Almira, 27, Irene, 25, Mylene, 23, and Celena, 19 – have made it through to a “challenge” phase of the competition on ITV.
They go by the name “4th Impact” and they wowed judges during their first audition with a bold performance of Jessie J’s “Bang Bang”.
But they have promised their parents back in the Philippines that they will stay away from boys during the UK competition.
“We have never kissed boys before. It is very strict in the Philippines, and so different to the UK. Our mum is very strict,” said Almira.
“I’m the only one who has ever had a boyfriend and we make sure Mum is there at all times. We are never on our own together.”
And although the girls are no strangers to the spotlight back home, having entered a string of global talent shows and won three, Irene insists the sisters have also never tasted alcohol.
She said: “We are from a very Catholic, conservative country and we don’t drink alcohol. The other contestants can’t believe we’ve never even tried alcohol, not even a sip.”
Meanwhile, Almira said their manager mother is worried about them living in the contestants’ house with boys, if they make it to the live show stage of the competition.
She giggled: “Our mum is so worried about us living in a contestant house with boys, but we’ve promised to be well behaved. Mum says, ‘Just focus on your performance and no boys, please’.”
“Some boys are good looking here, but we can’t pay attention to them.
“We just want to think about winning, because we would love to live in London full time.”
The sisters have a goal of helping their family to own its own house and “not be transferring about in different parts of Manila”.
