The Church of England in the UK has a church locator website. It has seen a 28% increase in people seeking church information in the 12 months to April
Peter Crumpler, Director of Communications for the Archbishops’ Council, said: “The increasing popularity of the site is one further indication of the trend for people to use the web when looking for a place for worship, to attend a wedding, funeral or baptism, or to seek a quiet place for prayer or reflection.”
There is no information available about the situation in New Zealand. There is anecdotal evidence that interest in religion has intensified with some pastors noticing increased church atendance.
Father Allan Jones of the Catholic Enquiry Centre says there has been some increase in requests from people seeking information about the Church; this week the centre sent out 17 of its information packs.
