Enclosed nun leaves convent for Pope

Sr Teresita has spent the last 84 years inside the convent Buenafuente del Sistal in North of Madrid, however the 103 year old nun will leave the cloistered walls on Friday to meet the pope in Madrid.

“She said she thinks she will make the trip with her eyes closed, so that nothing will distract her,” said the convent’s mother superior, Sr Maria.

Sr Theresita was 19 when she entered the convent, two years before the Wall Street crash, and coincidentally on the same day Pope Benedict was born. She has been in seclusion in the convent except for a few hours during the 1936-1939 Spanish Civil War, when the nuns left in fear for their lives.

Originally not knowing anything about nuns, Sr Theresita was a little late in entering the convent because she didn’t like the nuns, however now is very happy.

“Who can spend 84 years in a convent without being happy? You feel happiness when you follow your vocation,” the enclosed nun said.
