Hometown rugby club and marae whanau have expressed their support and aroha for their young Ngati Kahungunu descendent, Zac Guildford
Speaking from Papawai, just outside Greytown, Paora Ammunson says the young rugby star has had huge challenges to overcome and it is clear he has many more ahead of him. A speaker for Papawai Marae, Mr Ammunson also chairs Greytown Junior Rugby where Zac began playing rugby as a four-year-old.
“Zac was a seventeen-year-old schoolboy when he first represented NZ at age grade rugby, two years later we were burying his father Robert, by the time he was nineteen he had been named in the All Black squad.”
“He has faced the kind of fame, personal tragedy and intense public scrutiny that most of us will never know.”
New Zealand Drug Foundation executive director Ross Bell said Guildford needed professional help, rather than to be hounded by the media.
