Civil claim laid against Hibernian Credit Union auditors

A civil claim against auditors of the Hibernian Credit Union, which is in liquidation as a result of a massive employee fraud, is set to be launched within weeks.

Lawyers for both the credit union’s liquidators, and those acting for the still-solvent Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society, are in the final stages of preparing a claim against Grant Thornton, the long-term auditors for the related but separate organisations.

Susan Terri Hagai, of Titahi Bay, was jailed for more than four years in November after pleading guilty to stealing more than $1.3 million from the credit union and benefit society over several years.

The conviction followed a joint police and Serious Fraud Office investigation.
