At the end of today’s General Audience in the Paul VI hall, the Pope, who has been following the news of the terrorist attacks in Nigeria – particularly against Christians – with deep concern, said he called upon the perpetrators to stop the bloodshed of innocent people immediately, to give up acts of revenge and strive for peace.
“I follow with deep concern” – the Pope said – “the news from Nigeria, where terrorist attacks continue, mainly against Christian faithful. While I pray for the victims and for those who suffer, I call upon the perpetrators of violence, immediately to stop the shedding of innocent people’s blood. I hope that there might be full cooperation among all members of Nigerian society, that they might eschew the path of vengeance, and that all citizens might rather work together to build a peaceful and reconciled society, in which the right freely to profess one’s faith is fully protected.” Continue reading
