New Zealand Christian Network (NZCN) wants Christians to be aware of misleading information about marriage and the Church.
“Contrary to wide-spread reports about divorce rates in the Church being the same as in general society, the strong indications are that divorce rates in the Church are significantly lower,” said NZCN national director, Glyn Carpenter.
Regrettably, negative statistics about Christianity receive more attention than positive ones, even if they are not true or don’t apply, said Mr Carpenter. “Barna Research is often quoted in this context,” said Mr Carpenter. “But our sister organisation in Canada, EFC, says Barna’s research does not fit the Canadian experience. And I would add that it doesn’t fit the situation here in New Zealand.”
