The former farm land at 200 Kay Road was bought 10 years ago by the Catholic Diocese of Hamilton, with plans to develop it into a new parish and school.
The land has been leased for cattle grazing since but diocese general manager Greg Schmidt said selling off the land, a 6.18ha portion of the original purchase, which was close to 10ha, has been in the works for the last few years to free up capital.
It is zoned medium-density residential within the Rototuna Structure Plan and is within the Hamilton city boundary.
The land is near the Rototuna town centre and will cater for a minimum yield of 138 dwellings once developed.
The property is for sale by tender and has been on the market since late March.
Already 30 different interested parties have contacted property marketer Louise Feathers.
