Call to update incorporated societies legislation

The Law Commission is calling on Parliament to update century-old legislation governing incorporated societies.

The commission says the 23,000 societies play a vital role in the social fabric of New Zealand and cover everything from chess clubs to the New Zealand Rugby Union.

But it says rules covering conflicts of interest and dispute resolution need to be clarified. Continue reading
