Rugby Academy for Apifo’ou College

A rugby academy is being set at up at Apifo’ou College in Ma’ufanga, Nuku’alofa, by a former principal at the school, Father Selwyn Akauola.

Wame Naivalu, from Fiji, an International Rugby Board-accredited coach, trainer and strength and conditioning coach, has been recruited to assist in the setting up of the academy.

According to the Tonga Daily News, Naivalu will soon be offering rugby courses to students through the rugby academy.

Father Selwyn said the academy was part of a dream to help offer young talented students the opportunity to develop their skills and also learn other skills.

“I want to help young people who otherwise will not have this opportunity,” he told Tonga Daily News.

“I see that there are a lot of young students who have the talents but do not do well academically and I want to help these students.”

Naivalu, who had set up a number of rugby academies at different schools in Fiji, said he was honoured to be recruited for the project.
