The Catholic archbishop of Suva, Peter Chong has set up teams around the country that have been trained to emphasise the use of the Bible in Catholic parishes.
“As we know, we Catholics are not very good with the Bible and the current age is not to be blamed because over the years we have shifted away from this,” he said.
“People in the church have shifted away to prayers such as devotions, novena, rosary and these are good but we need to keep the fundamental of faith which is the Word of God first above other things.”
“So what we are doing is introducing programs that will allow Catholics to use the Word of God as a means of sharing to others around them during prayer meeting or just helping out in society.”
At the same time the Methodist Church in Fiji has launched a new transaltion of the Old testament
Methodist Church in Fiji historian, Dr Andrew Thornley said the new edition was much clearer than the current Old Testament.
“I am hoping that the Hazlewood (edition) would bring people back to reading the Old Testament in Fijian,” he said.
