The UN has declared the 19 November to be World Toilet day.
This year Samoa has celebrated World Toilet day with great panache and a nod in the direction of the Old Testament.
In the opening remarks of his spiritual message Reverend Aumua Seuga Aumua reminded everyone that even in the time of Moses, proper waste management was important.
“It was a sin to be unhealthy and unclean, and thus sickness was the punishment for those who did not take care of their health,” said Rev. Aumua.
A statue has been unveiled to commemorate the importance of hygiene in Samoa and postage stamps have been printed to commemorate World Toilet day.
Jack Sims, also known as Mr. Toilet, visited the Prime Minister earlier this year and was bestowed the honorary title Tuifalevao. Falevao is one of the Prime Minister’s villages on the eastern side of Upolu island and the name is loosely translated to mean a toilet. Continue reading
