Two decades after the collapse of the USSR, history’s most atheistic state, the vast majority of Russians attest to a belief in God – more than in any other European country – according to a 2011 opinion poll.
However, deeper analysis of the results reveals that while it would seem that Russia is a land of believers, the populace is not particularly religious.
