Hawke’s Bay school uses social media to find new principal

A Hawke’s Bay Catholic primary school has taken to social media to look for a new principal.

St Joseph’s School in the Holy Trinity Parish of Central Hawke’s Bay has found a novel way to stand out in the search for a new principal using Youtube and Facebook

The board of trustees had advertised twice using the traditional routes but were struggling to find suitable applicants who were dynamic leaders of learning to drive academic excellence, but who were also dynamic leaders in faith.

They could see that they needed to stand out and catch the imagination of not only current principals, but perhaps deputies or senior managers who might like the idea of a promotion to being part of a small community and working with inspiring and dedicated students.

“It is our children who make the heart and identity of the school so we asked them to help us with our search” said board chair Alex Walker.

“A group of our student leaders came up with the concept, worked out a script and a cast, which we could then make into a video.”

The video has been launched via Youtube and the school’s Facebook page with the first “viral” surge being as parents and friends of the school share how proud they are of their school.

The board has already received several enquiries about the position. Applications closed July 4th for a Term 4 start at the school.
