Give incentives for teaching in Auckland says Catholic school principal

Principal of St Mark’s Catholic Primary School in Pakuranga Catherine Rivers says the Ministry of Education needs to create a pay incentive to entice teachers to stay in Auckland.

“When I was a beginning teacher you used to get a country incentive to go to a certain country and work,” she says.

“Now I think they need a Auckland city incentive because of the house prices and the rising costs of just living in Auckland.

“I also think the ministry is going to have to do some recruiting drives overseas for suitable teachers that are primary educated.” Continue reading
