Rolls Royce withdraws offer for donors to see pope

An exclusive offer to Rolls Royce owners who donate $100,000 euros to the Holy See has been withdrawn.

According to news reports last week, Rolls-Royce and tour facilitator and operator Italian Luxury Living were offering Rolls Royce owners a chance to meet privately with Pope Francis.

The reports said donors would also receive the Eucharist from the pope during a private Mass, and take an “exclusive” tour of the Vatican.

The price tag was set at about a quarter of a million euros. Owners would pay about $155,000 euros for the tour and meeting and donate around 100,000 euros to the Holy See.

Italian Luxury Living spokesman Ananda Gari says the offer was withdrawn because of last week’s news reports about it.

He did not want to cause a “scandal,” which is why the offer was “canceled.” He declined to elaborate.

Gari also refused several times to answer questions about whether any Vatican official had agreed to facilitate the exclusive meeting.

Again, he continued to say “the offer no longer exists.”

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni says he has “heard nothing of this offer.”

Gari says Italian Luxury Living has never before offered an opportunity to meet the pope. He equated the offer to other typical Italian tour offers and said “competitors have done similar things.”
