Priest helps kids get Easter picture in new book

A Wairarapa priest has collaborated with New Zealand author and part-time Featherston resident Joy Cowley to make the story of Easter more accessible for children.

Father Donald Morrison, the parish priest for St Teresa’s in Featherston and St Anthony’s in Martinborough, was asked to illustrate the book after Joy Cowley approached St Teresa’s school with the idea for The Easter Story.

Bishops warn against crucifixions

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) warned penitents today against crucifying themselves this Holy Week.

Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu, CBCP president, said the Church would rather have people renewing their faith than inflicting pain on themselves.

“While we are trying to discourage these practices we cannot also judge their intention, especially those who have made it as their vow,” the prelate said.

St Matthews in the City does it again for Easter

A provocative Auckland church known for stirring up debate has unveiled its new billboard in the lead-up to Easter.

The billboard erected at the front of St Matthews in the City today depicts a Facebook photo album with Jesus on the cross as the main image. Directly below, the image is “liked” by Judas Iscariot.

“We decided to make a joke about the propensity of Christians to lay blame,” said Reverend Glynn Cardy.
