New Catholic Education Secretary appointed in PNG

The newly appointed National Catholic Education Secretary for Papua New Guinea has taken up his position and began by attending the First National Education Board meeting for 2013 as an observer.

He replaces Mr. Sylvester Ganisi, from the diocese of Alotau, who for the past seven years has been National Catholic Education Secretary.

In the newly released Newsletter of his office, the new Secretary introduces himself: “I am Joseph Direkoro, with a teaching background and many years experience in the Kundiawa Diocese.  I am now the new National Catholic Education Secretary for Papua New Guinea who took up office thanks to the efforts of Archbishop Francesco Panfilo, Deputy Bishop of Education, and the panel that facilitated the appointment.

“As the 2013 school year unfolds I warmly welcome the teachers and students and all who work tirelessly for the Catholic Education in PNG. In spite of all the current education issues we’re hopeful that we’ll get this year rolling to the end taking in to account that this is the Year of Faith. Let all our words and actions reflect who we are and what we do as Catholic faithful. I wish everyone a blessed year.”
