St Kevin’s College in Oamaru, New Zealand will hold a grand opening of its new horse arena next month.
The co-educational secondary boarding school introduced an equine studies programme in the second term of this year and the support and interest had been ”amazing”, assistant principal and programme co-ordinator Jo Walshe said.
The programme had been suggested because of the number of rural boarding pupils who ride and keep horses on school grounds.
The course involves multiple components, including NCEA credits and hands-on experience, and is tailored to suit riders of any level.
It is taught by Swedish tutor Ingela Anklew. Ms Anklew and her partner moved to New Zealand in 2012 and have now settled in Oamaru.
