Second miracle attributed to JPII

A second miracle attributed to the late pope John Paul II has been reported and he could be made a saint soon.

The miraculous healing was reported in Italy’s Panorama weekly yesterday, citing documents sent to the Vatican.

It occurred just weeks after John Paul II’s grandiose beatification on May 1 last year, which put him on the path to sainthood just six years after his death and was attended by over a million people.

The second miracle, about which no details were reported, was chosen from among four reported miracles and documented by the promoter of Karol Wojtyla’s canonisation, Bishop Slowomir Oder, Panorama said.

Evidence of alleged miracle with Sheen links heads to Rome

Boxes wrapped in ribbon and a happy little boy are Christmas images, but the combination had another joyful meaning Dec. 11 during ceremonies closing the Diocese of Peoria’s inquiry into an alleged miraculous healing through the intercession of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

“May God, who has begun this great work, bring it to fulfillment,” said Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, after affixing a wax seal on a box containing evidence gathered in the past three months by an investigative tribunal. The assembly gathered for the special Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral responded with sustained applause.

That evidence is now on its way to Rome for consideration by the Congregation for the Causes for Saints. The congregation is studying the beatification and sainthood cause of Archbishop Sheen, a central Illinois native and priest of the Peoria diocese who became an internationally known evangelist, radio/TV personality, writer and missionary.
