Feesago Siaosi Fepuleai, in a keynote speech at the Samoa Institute of Accountants, said that only ethical people can be ethical professionals.
He gave some examples of frauds that have occurred internationally and locally and said, “I invariably wondered therefore sometimes why these things were happening when the very values and principles on which your Institute is founded, and portrayed in your ethics statement is ‘…to render competent accounting and business services with unbreachable integrity …and to maintain the highest level of professional conduct at all times.’ ”
Feesago has been a public servant for more than 50 years and has, among other things, served as High Commissioner to Wellington, London and Canberra and Ambassador to Belgium, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and European Community.
