An outcry from abuse survivor advocates has seen Munich and Freising’s archbishop refuse the German equivalent of knighthood. Cardinal Reinhard Marx says he wrote to German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday, declining to accept Germany’s only federal decoration.
