Sleeping priest, 80, severely beaten, and robber asks for prayers

They broke into the priest’s home as he slept, busted his ribs and gave him a black eye.

The Rev. Daniel Mallette, preparing for the next life, confessed his sins aloud. The two masked intruders told the 80-year-old priest to shut up and beat him some more.

They forced him to open a safe and stole $500 meant for the poor. And when they were done, one asked him to pray for his soul.

German court rules Muslim pupil cannot pray at school, cites tensions

A German court ruled on Wednesday that a Muslim student in Berlin cannot pray in the corridor of his high school even outside lesson time as it would disrupt the school. Germany’s Federal Administrative Court said in a statement its ruling applied only to this particular instance and took into account special circumstances at the school.

Complaint laid in unholy row on prayer

Controversy over Wanganui District council’s prayer has flared again, with one councillor facing possible suspension after a complaint was laid against him by a colleague.

Councillor Clive Solomon has laid a Code of Conduct complaint against Councillor Rob Vinsen, alleging a number of breaches of the “understanding and expectations” requirements of the code.

The complaint relates to comments made by Mr Vinsen in emails regarding the council’s prayer.
